Renowned Israeli Chef Eyal Shani Opens Naked Tomato on Washington Avenue Eyal Shani, the Israeli chef behind HaSalon and more than 50 restaurants worldwide, has opened another new concept in a Miami Beach hotel.

Taking over the former Como Como space—most recently used as an event venue—Naked Tomatois now open at the Moxy South Beach on Washington Avenue.

Despite the name, the "naked" doesn't refer to attire. Instead, it speaks to the philosophy behind the food.

"The name refers to removing the masks and distractions and standing fully behind the ingredient itself," said the restaurateur, who opened his first restaurant, Oceanus, in Jerusalem in 1989. "It requires choosing the very best, understanding its singular character and guiding it gently to its purest expression." He added that naked food is "high risk creation. It is purity."

Some dishes on the Naked Tomato menu are new, while others are pulled from the most popular offerings at Shani's restaurants in cities including New York, Tel Aviv, Paris, Melbourne, Singapore, London, and Las Vegas.

On the menu, expect roasted eggplant, Moroccan salad, and all the usual dip suspects—hummus, babaganoush, and labneh. Shipudim (Israeli-style skewers) also play a starring role, with options like wild mushrooms, shrimp, harissa chicken thigh, or lamb kebab served with a slew of mezzes. Larger plates include a catch of the day, a Tomahawk steak, and chicken schnitzel.

The restaurant, designed by Turjeman Yaakov of Jacob Turgeman Design, also features a full liquor bar. Shani, who opened Bella at the Liberty Park Hotel in Miami Beach earlier this year, first launched HaSalon in Tel Aviv in 2008. He later partnered with Major Food Group to bring HaSalon to Miami Beach in 2021.
